By Erdal Balci (TR)ARMENIAN QUESTION IS MAKING FATMA KOSER KAYA INTO AN ALTERNATIVEBy Eildert Mulderhttp://us.f610.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1_891033_AAyzSdEAAEbhRUfPdgcH%2FU6Xpqw&pid=3&fid=Inbox&inline=1The campaign of the nationalist Turks against the CDA and the PvdA seems to be gaining momentum. From within The Hague the Turks Forum [TURKISH FORUM] has been disseminating a poster since yesterday that appeals to people to vote en masse for Fatma KOSER KAYA of D’66.The anger is mostly directed at the CDA and the PvdA, which took three Turkish candidates off the electoral list because they refused to recognize the Armenian genocide. But the action is also directed against the VVD, the Left Wing Green party, and the SP. In contrast an accompanying e-mail describes D’66 as the champion of free expression.Koser Kaya stole the hearts of the nationalist Turks by refusing to be held accountable for the Armenian genocide of 1915. She has also voted against the integration bill of VERDONK. “Let us give them a lesson” (TR)us.f610.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1_891033_AAyzSdEAAEbhRUfPdgcH%2FU6Xpqw&pid=4&fid=Inbox&inline=1This weekend there was a PvdA-meeting with Turkish local politicians in Deventer. Also in Amsterdam and Rotterdam have such meetings been held. In a letter to the party-sections of Rotterdam and The Hague the party chairman Michiel Van HULTEN writes that the party will not be holding local Turkish politicians accountable for the Armenian genocide. The nationalist Turkish organization FOCUS 1915 is not terribly impressed. FOCUS has even warned its fiercest opponent, the Armenian umbrella organization the FAON, against the PvdA.FOCUS to the Armenians: “Even though we have a difference of opinion with regard to the Armenian question … I would like to point out the PvdA to you, which is lying to us both. To you they are talking about the ‘Armenian genocide’ and to the Turkish community they are talking of the ‘hundreds-of-thousands of Armenians victims, but whether it exactly matches the definition of genocide under international law is something we prefer to leave to the jurists and the historians [to decide].” The letter goes on with: “I just wished to let you know so that you will be aware of the very dirty little games that are being played within the PvdA.” WWW.FATMAKOSERKAYA.NL 31-10-06 INTERNETCURRENT COMMENTSAh, it is so nice to be a Dutchman of Turkish origin. People find you exotic; in your permanent holiday country you already know your way around and no matter through which quarter you walk in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, or Deventer: you can understand everybody. That is something Marco PASTORS and Hilbrand NAWIJN cannot repeat after me! I will bet you that the taxi driver in Alanya will even rip them off a little bit extra as he is driving them to their all-inclusive holiday resort at the seaside? No, it is truly very nice. Every day you get little compliments, because you speak the language so well, because you are so modern, what without the headscarf and all. As it happens, Turkish women dress far better than Dutch women. There are also many festive holidays, what with [belonging to] two cultures at the same time. And yes sir, isn’t it nice, Sinterklaas does indeed come from Turkey! How good of you to notice. Not that there were all that many Turks living in Izmir back then, nut never mind. It would be miserly to nitpick over that kind of historical details.Although ….Sometimes, for reasons that cannot be traced, history all of a sudden becomes very topical again. These days there seems to be a word that I should express often and possibly with as great a sense of guilt as possible: genocide. For I happen to be of Turkish origin, you know. And ‘we’ seem to have made ourselves guilty of this. The Ottoman Empire was big and vast and it comprised many different peoples, cultures and religions. Although the Turks formed the dominant ethnic group, they were not the only people. And in the last days of the Sultanate, when the central power in Istanbul had lost its unifying power, civil wars broke out. Peoples seceded. From Rumania to Lebanon, from Greece to Syria: the Empire kept getting smaller. And there was murder being committed. A lot of murdering. On both sides, as it happens.Have many hundreds-of-thousands of Armenians been slaughtered back in those days? Certainly. There can be no doubt about that. It is necessary that, also in Turkey itself, an adult and scientific debate gets underway on what exactly happened during the fall of the Ottoman Empire, who is to bear the responsibility for that, and how those events are to be qualified. Surely, it is unacceptable that Turkish intellectuals, who dare to make an appeal for such a debate, are being dragged before a Turkish Judge. But the point it: is that what it is about right now, here in the Netherlands? Why are Dutch candidate-politicians of Turkish origin all of a sudden pilloried and forced to declare themselves with regard to the genocide-standpoint, under punishment of being removed from the electoral list? Why aren’t Dutch candidates, who, not by accident, have a different colour hair, asked what they think of the post-war events in Indonesia, for instance? Are the relations between the Netherlands and Indonesia perhaps less topical and important? And besides, if one truly wishes to enter upon a debate on 1915: why then isn’t the same question asked of non-Turkish candidates? Does it matter what one’s origin is where the weighing of historical events is concerned? What if a native Dutch politician were to deny the Armenian genocide? Would he too be scratched off the electoral list?Making use of a double standard, a selective application of the freedom of expression: these are matters that spontaneously make me want to put on my while making loud Turkish war cries and pulling out a firm scimitar in order to go to battle against hypocrisy and unequal treatment. For that is why I am a free, liberal, independently thinking social-liberal.And fortunately my party, D’66, thinks the same. TROUW 31-10-2006 PAGE 8(TR)The rush on Turkish banks does not seem to stop. Between 1997 and 2005, 24 Turkish banks have been sold to foreigners. Last week, 20 percent of the big Akbank was sold to the American Citigroup for three billion dollar.Nearly thirty percent of the Turkish banking world is meanwhile in foreign hands and the Turks are concerned. The circle is round when the big state banks Halkbank and Vakiflar are privatized.“The expectation is that these two state banks will soon be sold to foreigners”, says Selim Somcag, economist and financial adviser. “If that happens it means Turkey is a semi-colony of the western world. Banks finance namely all the sectors in a country. If they do not do that the country will collapse.”Abdullatif Sener, Minister of Economy, said a few years ago that the share of the foreigners should not be more than twenty percent. This limit has meanwhile been surpassed. Turks, who are already skeptical about foreign capital, got a bitter taste in their mouth when half of Finansbank was sold to a Greek investor.Murat Yulek, economist and columnist with the paper Dunya: “The main reason that Turkish banks find buyers so easily is that there is too little room for growth in Europe. Turkey on the other hand is a growing market. The foreigners are well aware of that. Besides that, Turkish bank owners have gone through much misery in the past. Many have been accused of corruption and have suffered in the times of economic crises. Now that there are customers they think: ‘no lingering: sell’.”Statistics show that the share of foreign bank owners in rich EU countries is indeed never more than twenty percent. In France, Austria and Greece that percentage has nearly been reached, in Germany it is only five percent. On the other hand, the percentage in EU newcomers is rather high: 65 percent in Hungary and Poland, in the Czech Republic even 95 percent. Are things in Turkey going in the same direction?Murat Yulek: “Turkey must be careful. It should not get as far as that foreigners will be in total control. If you do not have control over your own banking you cannot play a significant role in the world either. Turkey must be more careful with her banks. Turks do not think of the long term. It is difficult to say ‘no’ to the billions of dollars they can get.”In the ‘run’ on Turkish banks the Dutch have stayed behind. Rabobank has negotiated for the takeover of Sekerbank for a long time, but that was canceled in the end. This bank went to entrepreneurs from Kazakhstan. Only Fortis took over Disbank last year.=============================================Degerli Uyelerimiz; Serverlerimizi ve Ozel DagItIm HatlarImIzI Devam Ettirebilmemiz Toplumumuza ve Turkiyemize Hizmete Devam Edebilmemiz Uye AidatlarInIzI ve Turkish Forum’u Ya$atacak Olan /www.turkishforum.com/tr/bagis.html$imdiden ve Candan Te$ekkurler.=============================================- COSKUN ORUZ HAYIR ERMENI YANLI PARTI CDANIHAT ESKI HAYIR ERMENI YANLI PARTI CDANEBAHAT ALBAYRAK HAYIR ERMENI YANLI PARTI VAN DE ARBEITKEKLIK YUCEL HAYIR ERMENI YANLI PARTI VAN DE ARBEITALI SARAC HAYIR ERMENI YANLI PARTI VAN DE ARBEITHURI SAHIN HAYIR ERMENI YANLI PARTI VAN DE ARBEIT………………… KESIN HAYIR ERMENI DESTEKCISI PARTI VDVBINGUL DONMEZ HAYIR ERMENI YANLI PARTI GROJEN LINKSRIZA DIKTAS HAYIR ERMENI YANLI PARTI GROJEN LINKSSAADET KARABULUT HAYIR ERMENI YANLI PARTI SP Turks Forum [mailto:turksforum.nl@gmail.com] Sunday, October 29, 2006 7:06 PM Turks Forum Turks Forum = Parlamento secim posteri High Saygideger Hollanda Turk toplumu uyeleri, Bilindigi gibi Hollanda’da partiler sozde Ermeni soykirimini kendi emellerine alet ederek 22 kasim secimlerinde, burda yasayan Turk insanina ve onun kulturune sahip cikan adaylarimiza gereksiz sepeblerle listelerden cikardilar.
