ATAA hosts TASSA's Strategy Meeting in DC

September 21, 2008, Washington, DC - The Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) hosted the "Board of Directors Strategy Meeting" of the Turkish-American Scientists and Scholars Association (TASSA) at the Turk Evi in Washington DC last weekend - September 20-21, 2008.  ATAA welcomed this event, which turned out to be a major corner stone for cementing the newly emerging partnership between the two organizations.

The Turkish-American Scientists and Scholars Association (TASSA) is an independent, non-profit organization established in June 2004 in Washington, DC.  TASSA seeks to promote educational, scientific and technological cooperation between the USA and Turkey and to facilitate the advancement of science in Turkey and the USA through scientific exchange, educational programs and increased networking.

TASSA's board members invited the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA), the Turkish Embassy and our President Elect Gunay Evinch to attend their last session on Saturday, with an attempt to exchange views on institutionalizing their goals and opening new avenues for Turkish scholars to amplify their voices in the United States.  TASSA has also met with the Turkish-American scientists and young scholars residing in our region over lunch on Sunday. This became an invaluable opportunity for those interested in meeting with the TASSA members and discussing a wide range of issues; from the increasing importance of Turkish scholars in American universities to current development in Turkish science and scholarship.

Ever since TASSA's establishment, ATAA supported and sought to work in tandem with our community of scholars. This recent occasion has certainly brought the two organizations even closer.  The Assembly of Turkish American Associations looks forward to undertaking joint initiatives with the TASSA and hopes to develop our friendship into a closer partnership.
